Base is an Ethereum Layer 2 developed by Coinbase and built with the OP Stack. It is EVM-compatible, but it remains a separate network with its own chain ID, balances and transaction history. A familiar Ethereum address does not mean that assets are already available on Base.
Useful entry points for Base
- Connect: choose a wallet that lists Base or allows a verified network configuration.
- Move assets: use bridge tools that state the source chain, destination chain, supported asset and route.
- Track activity: compare portfolio trackers for positions and onchain analytics for addresses and contracts.
Three details prevent most network mistakes
Base uses ETH for gas, so the ETH must be on Base rather than only on Ethereum mainnet. Token contracts also need to be verified on the Base network. Finally, a bridge transaction has a source step and a destination result; review both instead of relying on the token symbol alone.
The directory is intended to help identify compatible services. Before signing, check the connected chain, destination contract, spending allowance and any fee shown by the tool.
