Koinly is web-based crypto tax software and a portfolio tracker. It brings transaction data from supported public blockchain addresses, exchange accounts and CSV files into one account, then calculates cost basis, gains and income from that imported history. Its workflow is for data review and reporting; it does not execute trades or move crypto assets.
What Koinly does with imported activity
Each exchange, service or blockchain account is added as a “Wallet” in Koinly. Depending on the source, records can be synchronized through a supported read-only API, a public address or key, or a CSV file. Koinly fetches market values, matches supported transfers between accounts owned by the same user, identifies supported staking and liquidity activity, and flags issues such as missing purchase history.
Users can inspect transactions, change classifications and resolve incomplete records before opening the Tax Reports page. Available outputs include tax forms, international reports, audit reports and exports for compatible filing software, depending on the selected country and plan.
Fit and requirements
- Useful for: individuals who need to combine crypto records from several sources, review cost basis and prepare reports for a supported tax context.
- Less suited for: users seeking trade execution, asset custody, automatic filing of a complete tax return, or calculations that never require manual reconciliation.
- Account required: yes.
- Wallet required: no. A public address is needed only to import a compatible blockchain account; exchange and CSV imports do not require a wallet connection.
- Installation: none for the verified web application.
- Interface language: English is the currently verified interface language.
Pricing and report access
Koinly uses a freemium model. The current free tier lists up to 10,000 transactions, unlimited wallets and exchange accounts, portfolio tracking and capital-gains previews. Downloading tax reports requires a paid plan for the selected tax year. The public pricing page currently displays paid plans from $49 per tax year, with limits based on the number of imported transactions; the currency is not labelled on that page.
Coverage and limits
- The blockchains shown on this page are data integrations, not networks on which Koinly executes transactions.
- Integration coverage and import methods vary by source. Unsupported services may require a custom wallet, CSV import or manual records.
- Calculations are only as complete as the history supplied. Missing wallets, unmatched transfers, absent prices and incorrect classifications can change the result until corrected.
- Cost-basis methods and report formats depend on the reporting country. Koinly prepares calculations and exports; the user still files the return or gives the output to a tax professional.
