MoonPay connects everyday payment methods to cryptocurrency purchases and sales. You can pay for a supported asset and receive it in a compatible wallet, or sell eligible crypto for a payout to an available bank account or card. Its mobile app also includes wallets and token exchanges.
From a card or bank payment to a crypto wallet
Purchase methods include cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and regional bank-payment options. Selling follows a separate order flow and has its own supported assets, currencies and payout methods. Being able to buy an asset does not automatically mean you can sell it through the same service.
Businesses can integrate these crypto payment flows through MoonPay widgets, SDKs and APIs. Gateway adds a fiat-to-token purchase flow for supported DeFi assets on Solana, Ethereum, Base and HyperCore, the trading layer of Hyperliquid. This product coverage does not imply that every token on those networks is available in the personal app.
Wallets and crypto exchanges in the app
MoonPay describes its mobile wallets as non-custodial and provides a way to export their recovery phrases. Users can send and receive supported assets. Crypto-only MoonPay Trade integrations route swaps on the same network or across networks, with transactions signed from a connected wallet. Their requirements differ from buying or selling with a card or bank payment.
What to know before starting
- Useful for: purchasing crypto for a compatible wallet, cashing out an eligible asset, or managing supported mobile wallets.
- Less suited to: a workflow that requires identical purchase and cash-out asset catalogs, or a payment method or country outside the available coverage.
- Account: required for the personal app and standard purchase or sale flow. Enabled US partner checkouts can create a guest account during payment, excluding New York and Washington; additional verification may still be requested. A separate MoonPay Trade account is not required for crypto-only wallet integrations.
- Wallet: a compatible receiving address is needed for a purchase. A separate crypto wallet is optional when an eligible MoonPay wallet is offered.
- Identity checks: standard fiat purchases and sales require personal information and identity verification. Additional documents may be requested as account limits change.
Costs: fiat transactions can include a MoonPay fee, a network fee and a partner ecosystem fee. A spread can be included in the asset price, and the bank or card issuer may charge separately. There is no single fee that applies to every order: the checkout quote shows the applicable charges and crypto amount for the order. Swap routes have their own costs and an estimated output amount.
Web checkout, iOS and Android apps, and developer integrations serve different workflows. The mobile app is documented as English-only. Asset availability, payment methods and cash-out options depend on the country, account and product.
Compare the quote: compare the total card or bank payment with the crypto actually delivered after fees. A spread is the difference embedded in the offered exchange rate relative to a reference rate; it is distinct from an explicitly listed service fee.
