Cosmos is a collection of sovereign blockchains built with interoperable technologies such as the Cosmos SDK and IBC. Cosmos Hub is one chain in that ecosystem, and ATOM is its native asset. A tool described as “Cosmos compatible” may cover Cosmos Hub, several IBC-connected chains or only a selected set.
Read the coverage before connecting
Cosmos wallets differ in the chains, account features and IBC routes they expose. Portfolio trackers may aggregate several chains, while crypto tax tools vary in their ability to import staking, governance and IBC transfers. The tool profile should identify the networks it actually supports.
Four details are chain-specific
- Chain ID: identifies the exact blockchain environment.
- Address prefix: can differ even when chains use related account technology.
- Fee asset: each sovereign chain determines which assets pay transaction fees.
- IBC path: a transferred token can include channel-specific denomination information.
Do not assume that ATOM pays fees everywhere or that every Cosmos wallet exposes the same chains. Verify the destination network, address and IBC route before approving a transfer.
