SNS is the web interface for Solana Name Service, a naming protocol on Solana. It lets users search and register .sns names, link a readable name to a Solana address, manage supported records and use registered names in compatible wallets and applications.
The current site also provides a marketplace for listings, offers and recent sales. Each .sns name is paired with a .sol.site address for publishing content that opens in a standard browser.
Who SNS is for
Useful for: Solana users who want a readable receiving name, a primary onchain identity, editable domain records or a domain they can list in the SNS marketplace.
Less suitable for: someone who needs a conventional DNS domain or a name guaranteed to resolve in every wallet, exchange or dApp. Recognition depends on the receiving product supporting SNS.
Requirements and access
The search and marketplace pages can be browsed without a separate username-and-password account. Registration, record changes and marketplace actions require a compatible wallet because the user must approve the related Solana transaction. SNS states that its interface is non-custodial and does not control private keys or reverse signed transactions.
Pricing and ownership conditions
Registration is paid. The current search interface shows availability and the price for each name; marketplace listings and offers have separate seller- or bidder-defined values. The price and payment asset should be reviewed in the interface before signing. Solana network costs are separate and can vary.
The terms state that registered names may expire and must be monitored or renewed when applicable. This means the conditions shown for the specific name take precedence over a general assumption of permanent registration.
Compatibility and limits
- The current consumer interface focuses on .sns names; official SNS developer tools also recognize .sol names.
- Resolution works only in wallets and applications that integrate SNS.
- Domain names and associated records are permissionless and are not identity verification.
- Signed blockchain transactions cannot be cancelled or reversed by SNS.
