A prediction market lets participants buy positions tied to a defined future outcome. Prices often reflect the market’s current balance of supply and demand, but they are not objective probabilities or guarantees. A useful evaluation begins with the exact question, closing time, outcome definitions, and settlement source—not with the headline price.
Read the market rules before the price
- • Question: Check the exact wording, deadline, time zone, and possible outcomes.
- • Resolution: Identify the source, dispute process, and fallback rules.
- • Liquidity: Review spreads, depth, fees, and redemption conditions.
Read the resolution rules first
Small wording differences can determine whether a market resolves yes, no, invalid, or according to a fallback. Check the authoritative data source, time zone, dispute window, cancellation conditions, and who makes the final decision. Ambiguous or extraordinary events can produce results that differ from a participant’s intuitive interpretation.
Account for liquidity and cost
Thin markets may have wide spreads and substantial price impact. Review available depth, order type, trading and settlement fees, network costs, deposit and withdrawal methods, and redemption process. A displayed price is not necessarily the price available for a larger trade.
Check legality and counterparty structure
Access can depend on residence, identity checks, subject matter, and local gambling or derivatives rules. Some services are custodial; others use contracts, oracles, and dispute mechanisms. Understand who holds funds, how outcomes are reported, and what recourse exists. Participation risks the amount committed and should never be treated as reliable income.
